Muhammad is a qualified medical doctor specialising in Public Health Medicine. As a registered Care Manager with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Muhammad supports individuals with long-term health conditions, mental health conditions and learning disabilities.

Muhammad is actively involved in the community and was elected as the Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. He is also certified as a Falls Champion, Diabetes Champion, Dignity Champion and Skills for Care Digital Champion. Muhammad has a deep understanding of patient safety, epidemiology, infection control, disease prevention, health education, change management and community health promotion.

Acquiring transferable skills

The Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care programme provided Muhammad with a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of leadership within the sector. The course's comprehensive curriculum, which emphasised leadership, management skills, change management and health improvement, was crucial in helping him build the confidence needed to apply and excel in his role.

The practical insights and case studies offered during the course enabled Muhammad to understand the complexities of adult social care management allowing him to implement effective strategies in real-world settings. Furthermore, the course developed his ability to lead teams, manage change and drive improvements within the health and social care field. This journey not only enhanced his professional capabilities but also instilled a strong sense of purpose and dedication to making a difference in the sector.

Advice for current students

Muhammad believes it is important to embrace the university journey and make the most of every opportunity as the knowledge and skills acquired as a student provide a strong foundation for the future. Therefore, engaging with the coursework as well as experiences beyond the classroom, such as networking with peers and participating in discussions, are fundamentally valuable.

Muhammad advises those who are interested in a similar career to embrace every learning opportunity and remain curious. Being engaged in opportunities such as internships, volunteering and part time work is essential for developing experience and learning to apply theoretical knowledge.

Adult social care is dynamic and ever evolving. Therefore, a commitment to lifelong learning is essential. Focus on building a strong foundation in key areas like change management, quality improvement and evidence-based practice as these will be crucial in navigating the challenges of this sector’. 

Career journey

Muhammad is currently the Operational Improvement Manager at CCS Homecare Services and the registered Manager with the Care Quality Commission, where he drives enhancements within the adult social care sector. This dual role enables him to blend strategic oversight, ensuring that both the operational aspects and the quality of care are continuously improving. These positions enable him to make a significant impact both in the ongoing development of the sector as well as the lives of adults who are in need of care.

He also serves as a Governor for an NHS Foundation Trust, where his role involves discussing the needs of local communities and helping to influence the future of local health services. His responsibilities include attending meetings and making decisions on behalf of members, as well as attending networking events and training sessions to expand his knowledge of mental health, physical health, and overall well-being within the NHS. Additionally, he participates in surveys and consultations on trust services to help shape a better future and supports the trust’s campaigns to promote good health and combat mental health stigma.

Key Achievements

Muhammad has made remarkable strides in both his professional and personal endeavours. His achievements highlight a strong commitment to excellence in the medical and healthcare fields.

Upon graduating in medicine, Muhammad was awarded the Dean’s Medal of Excellence and an Academic Gold Medal, accolades that speak to his academic brilliance and dedication to his studies. His leadership skills were also evident in his previous role as Regional Chairperson of the Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA International), where he successfully secured the Best Chapter Award during his tenure.

Muhammad was selected to participate in the 68th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings held in Germany in 2018. He has also been recognised as a Regional Finalist for the prestigious Great British Care Awards for two consecutive years, underscoring his contributions to the care industry. In 2024, he was honoured to be selected as a Judge for Great British Care Awards, an opportunity that reflects his deep expertise and dedication to healthcare standards. His professional accomplishments have also been recognised by CCS Homecare Services, where he was awarded the Management Excellence Award twice, underscoring his leadership and contributions to the care industry.

In addition to his impressive career, Muhammad is an active member of several prestigious organisations, including The Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future (ACFF), Parkinson’s UK, and The Outstanding Society, where he continues to contribute to key initiatives within the healthcare sector. He was also recently featured in the Diabetes UK magazine, where his volunteering contributions with Diabetes UK were recognised, further showcasing his commitment to improving healthcare outcomes.

His expertise has been further showcased in a Skills for Care Registered Manager Webinar, where Muhammad shared his valuable insights with a wider audience of healthcare professionals.

Future aspirations

Looking ahead, Muhammad is committed to excelling further in the field of adult social care management. His goal is to continue advancing his expertise and taking on further leadership roles where he can collaborate with other leaders in adult social care.  

‘I am particularly interested in exploring innovative approaches to address the evolving challenges in social care. My vision is to contribute to a future where adult social care is not only responsive and efficient, but also proactive in promoting independence and wellbeing for all individuals. This journey of continuous growth and impact is what inspires me as I look to the future.’

Outside of his professional life, he is an avid swimmer and has participated in the Swimathon events to raise funds for Cancer Research UK in support of the fight against cancer.

Muhammad continues to make significant contributions to the healthcare field and beyond, demonstrating the same passion, dedication, and excellence that were cultivated during his time at the University of Derby.
