• About this course

  • During this course you'll explore a range of subjects and get back into the swing of studying again.

    As well as improving your language and numeracy skills you'll develop your confidence in writing essays and reports, undertaking research, analysing numbers, doing presentations, managing your time and working as part of a team.

    Throughout this course you'll be able to use the library, which has a large collection of books and journals, as well as different areas for group work and individual study. There is also plenty of It equipment for use

    You'll take these subjects:

    You'll then choose a total of three further subjects from:

    • Biology (double module - counts as two)
    • Business
    • Chemistry
    • Computing
    • Environmental Studies
    • History
    • IT
    • Law
    • Literature
    • Maths*
    • Philosophy
    • Psychology
    • Physics* (double module - counts as two)
    • Sociology

    * In order to study Physics or Maths at level 3 you MUST already hold GCSE Maths at C or above.

• What you will cover

  • You'll be taught through lectures, tutorials, workshops and practical sessions.

• Entry requirements

  • There are no formal entry requirements, however, you will need to demonstrate a commitment and ability to study at this level, and take a literacy test before we can offer you a place.

    The course is not appropriate for students who wish to study at other universities, or who wish to progress onto specialist degrees such as Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Education (QTS) or programmes which use selection methods such as interviews, portfolios or assessment days.

    Full-time students applying in September should apply for this course through UCAS or you can apply directly to the University for an undergraduate course if you’re not applying to any other UK university in the same year.

  • You'll be assessed in a variety of ways, including presentations, reports, essays and case studies.

    Teaching hours

    Like most universities, we operate extended teaching hours at the University of Derby, so contact time with your lecturers and tutors could be anytime between 9am and 9pm. Your timetable will be communicated after enrolment on your course.

• Careers and employability

  • You'll be able to move on to a Joint Honours degree once you've successfully completed the Foundation Programme or choose from many other degrees that the University offers.
