Meet the Widening Access Team

Meet our team We are a friendly team based at the Derby campus. We work closely with schools and colleges, delivering school liaison activities to Derby City and some Derbyshire schools.

Krisha Bainham

Krisha has worked at the University of Derby for 19 years and has worked within higher education since completing a BA (Hons) Sociology and Business Psychology degree in 1997. Krisha has a Masters degree in Guidance Practice and has been involved in widening participation work for over 15 years, providing direction, support and leadership to teams of widening access and outreach professionals.

Jo Astley

Jo has been with the University of Derby since 2015. Her areas of responsibility include developing and overseeing the team's targeted activity in regard to specific WP groups, including projects with White Working Class Boys and Looked After Children. Jo is also responsible for Swadlincote schools, as well as overseeing the team's evaluation and monitoring activity, and representing the University of Derby on the Higher Horizons+ Management group.

Luke Gordon-Calvert

Luke is a BSc (Hons) Geography graduate from the University of Derby where he worked as an Ambassador alongside his studies. Luke has been delivering outreach activity at the University for three years, following a brief period in teacher training and as a Supply Teacher. Luke is the Officer responsible for Derby City schools.

Emma Raynor

Emma is a BA (Hons) English graduate from the University of Exeter. Emma has been working at the University since August 2017 and has a background of working in higher education and the charity sector. Emma is the Officer responsible for Derbyshire schools.

Hollie Smith

Hollie is a BA (Hons) Education Studies graduate from Sheffield Hallam University and has voluntary experience as a classroom assistant across a range of schools, from Primary level through to Post-16. Hollie joins us as a Widening Access Co-ordinator facilitating events and activities across our Derbyshire partners.

Victoria Spink

Victoria has just completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Derby in Media Studies. She has worked for the University as an Ambassador for the past three years, whilst also working as a Teaching Assistant in a Special Educational Needs school. 

Charlotte Wisson

Charlotte is a qualified primary school teacher who completed her PGCE at the University of Derby and a BA (Hons) Geography degree at Keele University where she worked as a Student Ambassador throughout her studies. Following working as a primary school teacher in Derby, Charlotte has become a Widening Access Co-ordinator, facilitating many of our events and activities.

Our Ambassadors

We have a a dedicated team of trained Ambassadors who help the team to deliver activities. They offer authentic advice and guidance and give school and college students information about what university life is really like.
