Tim Wilmshurst - What do supervisors say - University of Derby

Tim Wilmshurst

Tim Wilmshurst, Deputy Head of Engineering talks about his experience as a supervisor to Kewal Tailor

What were the benefit to your student?

The benefits to the student have been remarkable. The most striking thing is that a conference student met with a leading industrialist and explained to him about some of the feature of his topic area.

Would you recommend the URSS?

I would recommend the URSS as I am a strong believer of leaning by doing and the students are given an original challenge. The learning that takes place under the scheme greatly exceeds the learning done in the class room.

If a student was considering the URSS what would you say to them?

My advice would be to take it very seriously, as there is a time commitment. But if you are committed there is a huge learning experience and it can assist with your final third year project.
