What is OneNote?

OneNote is Microsoft program that allows you to capture, organise and share digital notes. It is freely available on desktop, online, tablet and mobile platforms.

Acting as a digital notebook, OneNote allows media rich capturing of notes such as text, pictures, photos (captured directly from a phone), web clippings, audio, video and digital drawing.

It also supports searching, tagging and intelligent organisation of notes that you capture.

Why would I use OneNote?

  • Organise your thoughts, notes and resources all in one place.
  • Use intelligent search features to quickly find previous notes
  • Create multiple notebooks for different projects
  • Create and organise teaching resources.
  • Conduct and record research all in one place
  • OneNote is cross platform and freely available on desktop, online, tablet and mobile platforms
  • OneNote has accessibility features built into the software, similar to Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office tools

The University of Derby is one of fifteen institutions working with Jisc to pilot their Digital Capability Discovery Tool, which has been developed for staff to self-audit and reflect on their digital capabilities. You have the opportunity to sit down with a member of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team to work through the self-audit, or discuss the results of your individual summary.  (The individual summary will be private to yourself, so you would need to bring a copy with you).
