£250,000 refurbishment of our learning centres

Man using touchscreens in the library

You'll probably spend quite a bit of time in the libraries when you're a student here, so you'll be pleased to know we've been improving these too!

Our current students told us that they wanted:

  • different types of study spaces (quiet zones and areas for group work and discussion)
  • to use printed and online resources, and mobile technologies.

So we’ve included all of this in a refurbishment plan that will cover the next four years.

We've just completed phase 1

Costing £250,000, this involved:

  • redecorating most of the lower ground floor area and making it a new flexible learning space for group work
  • replacing existing study desks with bright, flexible new furniture
  • providing meeting pods as alternatives to the existing group study rooms
  • installing new signs on other floors to designate quiet zones clearly.

These changes mean that there are now different zones or areas of the Learning Centre for different activities - group work and discussion on the lower ground floor and quiet study on the second floor.
