Learning Beyond Registration

Learning Beyond Registration (LBR) is a vital part of developing competent, capable health service practitioners prepared to deliver a dynamic, flexible, quality, client-focused service. If you're employed by the NHS in the East Midlands then you may be eligible for fee-free access to our LBR modules and/or programmes. You'll need to supply evidence of approval from your line manager and Trust Education Lead when you apply.

About this module

It is widely recognised that, despite new initiatives and strategies to support them, many of the most vulnerable people in society become victims of neglect, abuse and isolation. The module will focus upon the issues and problems related to the physical and mental health of vulnerable individuals in society, with the aim of developing the practitioner's skills in assessment, support and management.

It will provide general principles of assessment, support and management to avoid crisis situations, and allow the you to select the focus of the assignment which is most appropriate to your practice. In practice situations, you will have the opportunity to critically examine and evaluate appropriate tools for managing critical situations, to enable you to make clinical judgments about the degree of individual safety and well-being.

You will be assisted in developing their recognition of physical, social and psychological cues, and encouraged to examine the challenges and benefits of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working to meet the needs of the individual.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module you will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse the significance of physical, social and psychological issues in determining the health and well being of the vulnerable client
  2. Critically examine the role of the practitioner in supporting and safeguarding the physical and mental health of the traumatised vulnerable client
  3. In relation to ethical and legal issues, demonstrate multidisciplinary and multi-agency working to resolve challenging / crises client situations
  4. Critically evaluate the ethical dilemmas which arise when addressing the care and protection of the vulnerable person, integrating appropriate legislative and professional directives.
