Volunteers and Volunteer Management
Why choose this course?
- Volunteers can add vital 'people power' to important community services, and in some cases volunteers can help make projects or programmes work better for users and clients.
- A volunteer is not a free resource however, he or she must be correctly recruited, managed and enabled if both the volunteer and the host organisation are to benefit.
- This course provides a great opportunity to boost your understanding of volunteering and volunteering management and you will receive 15 nationally recognised HE credits.
About the course
This course has been developed at an important time for volunteering. Government policy describes a new focus on volunteers and volunteer management, and signals a commitment to increases in the scale of voluntary engagement in many areas. Developing your understanding of these new national priorities can ensure you are up to date and in the best position to support voluntary work effectively.
During the course you'll gain an insight into why people volunteer and what a volunteer can expect from a host organisation. You'll examine best practice in management, development and training, and gain an up to date understanding of the legal issues involved in delivering services through volunteer workers. You'll also be able to prepare bespoke volunteer policies, an essential starting point for a well managed volunteer relationship.
You'll learn through lectures, group work and research tasks based on your workplace or volunteer host. There are no exams, so you'll be assessed in your coursework, which will involve a 2500 word report focusing on the systems at your current workplace or volunteer placement. You'll also be expected to undertake 120 additional work hours of self directed learning alongside the four days of workshops.
