Unimail
Unimail will bring a number of improvements to the way that students and academics communicate with each other.
Users will be notified by email to your personal email address when your Unimail account is available. Until this time you will receive all official communication from the University to your personal email address as in previous years.

Useful information:
» Working with messages
In addition to reading and sending e-mail messages, you can customize your messages by, for example, adding attachments, requesting receipts when a message is read or delivered, and adding a category to a message.
You can use folders to organize your messages just as you'd use a file system to organize papers. You can manage the messages you receive by using rules to sort them into different folders.
You can find more information on how to work with messages on the Microsoft website.
» Using the calendar
When you add an appointment to your calendar, you can customise it in a number of ways including:
- adding attachments
- setting a reminder
- setting repeating appointments, so the appointment is automatically added to your calendar on a regular basis.
You can find more information on how to manage your calendar from the Microsoft website.
» Contacts and groups
The contacts folder of your mailbox is like an online address book with an entry for each person or group that you want to include.
- A contact is used for a single person or company.
- A group is used to manage multiple contacts.
When you send a message to a group, it will be sent to every contact in that group.
You can find more information about contacts and groups on the Microsoft website.
» Customising your mailbox
Your Unimail mailbox is ready to use as soon as you sign in. You don't have to change any settings to start sending and receiving email messages. However, you can change some settings to suit your personal preferences.
For example you can change the font used when you create an email message. You can also automatically check the spelling or add a signature to your email message before it is sent.
You can find more information on customising your mailbox settings from the Microsoft website.
» Accessibility
The Unimail service has a 'light' version that is optimised for users who are blind or have low vision. You can find more information on the Outlook Light version on the Microsoft website.
» Signing out
When you finish using Unimail, be sure to click Sign out on the toolbar and then close down all your browser windows. Signing out in this way, prevents someone else using the computer to access your email. Even if you plan to continue using the computer to visit other websites, it is recommended you sign out and close all browser windows after every session.
» What else do I need to know?
To help protect your mail account from unauthorised access, the Unimail web application automatically closes its connection to your mailbox after a period of inactivity. This is especially important if you access your email from a shared computer or internet cafe. If your connection closes before you've finished, close the Unimail window and log into the Unimail system again.
