Stockport County Football Club
Pictured above are members of our staff and centred in front from right to left - two of Stockport County's star players Johnny Mullins and Peter Thompson. The UoDB are pleased to be able to support Stockport County Football Club.
The Partnership
The formal launch of the sponsorship took place on the 10 Nov 2009 in the Dome at the Buxton Campus and since then the relationship between Stockport County and the University of Derby has gone from strength to strength. Rob Clare, Commercial Manager at Stockport County told us "We are delighted to be working so closely with the University of Derby Buxton. We are now giving students a real opportunity to have some involvement with the football club with work placements on offer throughout the season".
The Club
The club has installed a collection of pitch side and turnstile banners at its Edgeley Park grounds, with the University's name and logo advertised, and the players' training kit will display the same.
Stockport is less than 20 miles from the UoDB campus and people wishing to study at the University could be eligible for its bursary scheme.
Stockport County has featured articles on their education pages of the Stockport County website and work with the University to encourage its season ticket holders to think about their education and career progression.
The Community Foundation
The Community Foundation at Stockport County works with schools in rural areas to bring sports to the community. The Community Foundation team have been able to buy a new van with the sponsorship which means they can visit more schools and increase community inclusion throughout Derbyshire.
We're proud to display the University logo at the ground
Beverley Cooke, Marketing Manager, UoDB said: "We're very excited about our growing relationship with Stockport County FC. Our students have some excellent opportunities to work with the club and we're proud to display the University logo at the ground.
We really hope that more people in Stockport will choose the University of Derby as their place to study."
