Climate and clothing
The climate in the UK might be very different from your country, so it is important that you are prepared for your arrival.
Climate
The average day-temperatures for the North West of England are:
- Summer: 19°C
- Winter: 5°C
You will however find that Buxton can be a little colder because it is 307 metres above sea level and the highest market town in England. The average temperature in summer is 17°C , and -3°C in winter.
Luckily Buxton has its own website with weather forecasts which will help you plan your day better. You can also take a look at the local web camera.
The BBC Weather website also shows a five day forecast for Buxton.
Clothing
Buxton has quite a lot of rainfall and we guarantee that you will experience snow while you are here! You will therefore need to dress warm when you are here so we would recommend:
- A warm, waterproof coat
- Long-sleeves and fleece jumpers
- Stabile, waterproof shoes
- Sturdy umbrella
It is worth adding extra blankets or investing in a thick duvet for your bed in the winter as well as wearing warm clothes indoors to reduce heating costs. There is however no extra charge for heating if you live in High Peak Halls, our University Halls of Residence.
