Simon and our students

Victoria Moore and Amy King, Event Management students who organised the conference.

This was a great opportunity to listen to experts and to ask questions about the events industry.

Rachel Entrepreneur

Rachel Elnaugh, one of Britain's highest profile female entrepreneur.

The National Student Events Conference is organised each year by our BA (Hons) Events Mangement students. There are guest speakers and presentations throughout the day and students are able to pick up industry tips and learn something new.

It's a great opportunity for students to network and is ideal for anyone wanting to go into the events industry. It helps to set the scene, so students can see an event from an industry expert's point of view.

Guest Speakers

This year we had some excellent guest speakers including Simon Graveling, Ceremonies Project Director for the 2011 Special Olympics open and closing ceremonies in Athens and Managing Consultant of Iconic Events Ltd, and entrepreneur Rachel Elnaugh who worked on Dragons Den and founder of Red Letter Days.

Other speakers included:

  • Amber Hunter, owner of Wedding Planners School, who gave us guidance on wedding co-ordination.
  • Patrick Nelson, entrepreneur, web professional and networker from UnderDesign Ltd and acknowledged as one of the UK's leading experts in web development and online marketing strategy.
  • Alan Stevens, described by The Independent as one of the top ten media experts in the UK, who gave a presentation on using social media to promote events.
  • And finally Jez Paxman who is the strategic director of Live Union an experiental marketing focused company.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was valuable to any student going into the events industry:

"This was a great opportunity to listen to experts and ask questions about the events industry. I really enjoyed the conference and picked up some great tips from listening to Simon and Rachel. I felt really inspired and motivated after the talks and would recommend anybody to get involved and go to these conferences as they're really useful and valuable."

Charley Elizabeth Torr, Joint Honours student who wants work within the events industry when she graduates.
