The first University in the East Midlands to receive the 'Inspire Mark'

Students working at Glastonbury

I did find the work very tiring at the time but looking back it was a great experience. It made me realise just how much hard work goes into staging a festival.

As part of their course, our students...

  • helped organise a three day, 140 mile charity cycle ride to launch a new Sports Coaching degree.
  • helped organise a charity hair and beauty show held at the Dome in Buxton. You can watch the video of an earlier fashion event held in the Dome.
  • Student and top UK skier Milo De Glanville organised a top ski and snowboard competition in France featuring some of Europe's top professional and amateur freestyle skiers and snowboarders. You can see a video of the event here.
  • A team of 30 students on the BA (Hons) Events Management course were employed by Glastonbury festival's security team to help steward the event - and it went so well that tutors are confident that they'll return for future festivals.

You can now study towards a new London 2012 Olympic 'Inspire Mark' approved qualification.

We're at the heart of the events industry

Buxton is home to the Buxton Opera Festival and Fringe Festival in July each year. We also host major conferences and exhibitions at the Devonshire Campus and regularly involve our students in major events being staged in the nearby cities of Derby, Manchester, Sheffield and Nottingham. So you'll be right where it's happening and experience real situations and case studies at first hand. Read about the Dome as a venue for our Events Management students to experience Real World Learning.

Hands on experience

We've got close links with the leading national and international employers in the events industry, so you will be at the cutting edge of what's going on. You'll also have the chance to put your learning into practice through accredited work experience.

Knowledgeable tutors

All of our tutors have lots of industry experience and they bring their real-life knowledge and skills into their teaching. We're also the founding member of the Association of Event Management Educators and so you can be sure that we really know what we're talking about.
