Student car parking
Student parking at the Derby campus
We've done a lot to provide good alternatives to the car for travel to our sites and ask that you first consider these options. However, we realise that for some people there will be no easy alternative.
We have some student parking available at our Kedleston Road site which is allocated to the permit applicants who have the most difficult journeys.
Student parking at our other Derby sites is restricted to blue badge holders only, but we do provide a free shuttle bus for the short trip between sites.
For those who aren't eligible for a permit at Kedleston Road, we offer a park and ride permit for the Markeaton Park A52/A38 car park, where there is now increased security and a free bus ride to your site every 10 minutes during term time.
Parking permits
If you can show that you need to use your car to study here, you can submit an application to us to park on site. If you don't meet the criteria, and you have to drive here, we recommend you apply for a park and ride permit.
There are two types of permit:
- Kedleston Road (KR) permit - there's no cost for the permit, but you'll need to pay and display. The charges of £1.90 for up to 4 hours or £3.80 for over 4 hours.
-
Park and Ride (MP) Permit - it costs £57 and allows parking at the main Markeaton Park Car Park (A52/A38 junction) during undergraduate teaching weeks (weekdays only). Outside of term time, this permit is valid for parking at the Kedleston Road site without further charge (click here for dates).
A limited amount of Park and Ride Permits will be available for January start students only after the January enrolment period. For details on how to get one of these permits please see our Park and Ride information page. -
For more information please see the Parking Policy or have a look at our Frequently Asked Questions to hopefully solve your query.
If you need to park after 4.30pm, you won't need a permit, or have to pay and display at our Kedleston Road site.
If you're a full time student, you won't normally be able to park at Kedleston Road. But, we recognise that some people need to park on site because of their personal circumstances. We'll support you, where we can.
Parking elsewhere
If you decide to bring your car, and you choose to park off site or away from the park and ride, please bear in mind that on-street parking is widely restricted. We ask that you park legally and considerately and not where our neighbouring residents may need to park their cars. See alternative parking for more information.
