Overseas trip to Poland
Bringing your learning to life
This trip to Poland gave our students the opportunity to apply what they had learned during the BA (Hons) Travel and Tourism Management course to a real tourism envrionment. The theory and textbook readings came to life when they explored this beautiful tourist destination.
The students can apply business of tourism, marketing and customer relationship management and aspects of geography, heritage and culture, and the impact of tourism on local economies and society.
We visited a variety of places
We explored a variety of destinations on the Polish tourist trail including the historic city of Krakow, which is fast becoming a popular destination to rival Prague. It was the first place we visited and we looked at how the business of tourism is transforming the city by looking at different hotels and talking to local people.
Highlights of the trip
Highlights of the trip was the chance to view the tunnels, caverns and subterranean lakes of the World Heritage site at Wieliczka Salt Mine, just outside Krakow. The mine was worked for over 900 years and the salt miners carved intricate figures and ornamentation with great skill in the crystalline salt. Many figures have religious themes and some caverns are ornate chapels in their own right.
When we visited Zakopane in the Tatra National Park we were able to compare approaches to landscape management and environmental sustainability with the Peak District in Derbyshire.
What our students said
"The trip to Poland was an amazing experience and I was able to relate what I had learned in the classroom to a real tourism enviornment. In this respect I found the trip to be really valuable and I thoroughly enjoyed it too."
