Tourism Management
The world's biggest industry
We're at the heart of tourism

We're right at the heart of the Peak District, a key area for tourism.
Buxton attracts large numbers of visitors to its various attractions (including our own Buxton Campus) and it hosts festivals and events throughout the year. Our tutors also have excellent links with the tourism industries of nearby cities including Derby, Manchester, Sheffield and Nottingham. So you'll be right where it's happening and experience real situations and case studies at first hand.
Tourism is often referred to as the world's biggest industry providing income and jobs for millions; the industry continues to grow at a fast pace with diverse and exciting careers open to you.
Studying tourism in Buxton
Not only is Buxton an exciting tourist destination, but our niche areas of expertise mean Buxton is the only place to be.
The Tourism Management Institute (TMI) is the professional body for destination management practitioners, with members drawn from all levels of the private and public sectors: national, regional, sub regional and local. As the destination management section of the Tourism Society, TMI seeks to support professional development within the sector, for potential entrants as well as existing practitioners.
The assessment and recognition we have received from TMI means that you can be confident the course you are on will provide you with the knowledge, understanding, skills and experience which will fully prepare you for a career in tourism destination management.
Supportive tutors
You will be encouraged to work independently to develop your academic and personal skills, but you'll get lots of personal attention during your course. You will get all the help and support you need to achieve your best from our supportive and friendly tutors.
All of our tourism courses at the university are informed by extensive research conducted by academics, so you can be sure your course is up to date and relevant.
