A Down To Earth Guide To The Cosmos

5 May 2013

Mark Thompson Talk

Details

  • Date: Sunday 5 May
  • Time: 2pm
  • Venue: University of Derby, Kedleston Road site, DE22 1GB.

Guest speaker Mark Thompson astronomer and presenter of BBC Stargazing Live

To the untrained eye, the star-filled sky at night can seem as mysterious and unfathomable as it was to our distant ancestors. Learning about the Universe requires two distinct areas of focus: understanding the physical nature of the processes and objects amongst the stars and the ability to find objects and navigate around the sky.

"Mark is a wonderful promoter of astronomy, guiding the experienced amateur and complete novice with equal skill and passion."

Professor Brian Cox

In this event, Mark combines these two areas in a unique and engaging way, taking you on the same journey that has taken mankind thousands of years.

This event is part of our Family Fun Day and following his talk Mark is happy to sign copies of his book after the event.
