Sarah wins an IED prize

Sarah Williams

Sarah with her 'WheeliEasy' design

Sarah Williams a BSc Design Technology student, has won one of only ten awards from the Institution of Engineering Designers.

The award was for her final year project on the 'WheeliEasy' support and move trolley for elderly/disabled people. Sarah's design was recently featured by the BBC, and is looking to be commercialised very soon.

The IED prizes are getting increasingly difficult to win as the number of awards given has been reduced from 20 a year to 10. And the competition is already quite fierce, with every institution throughout the UK who offers product design programmes submitting entries. Derby students have remarkably managed to get six of these awards since we were accredited by the IED in 2007, which is nearly one award each year.

Sarah received a glass inscribed desk plaque, a year's free membership and a write up in their professional journal.
