Mindfields

Mindfields

Mindfields was an interactive, multimedia installation, which challenged players to find their way through a virtual minefield environment, without triggering a mine.

Through out this physical puzzle, players were guided through a darkened room, by audio and visual cues, which indicated their proximity to virtual mines. Players had to listen for warning tones, to guide them through an invisible maze, they also have to watch the data screens intently for the next message from the mine detector on their ankle. See pictures from the event.

The system responds to natural movements, without the need for a control device, by using a camera and motion tracking software to locate the players position in a virtual minefield.

Stuart and our students from the Electronics and Sound subject area have generated the original music, video lights and directional sound for the game, to enhance the game play. The open design of the experience, allowed spectators to observe what was going on and became part of the game with their reactions greatly enhancing the atmosphere.
