I was struggling to get into the acoustics field, however I've now landed a great job in Sydney.
I work for a company called the Videoplus, the best way to describe what we do would be to visit the website.
At Videoplus they have a great relationship with The National Breast Cancer Fund. To raise awareness of their fundraising campaign for 2010 they turned the Queen Victoria Cruise Ship pink. Read the news article...
Turning peoples' ideas into reality
I've been with the company working as a production co-ordinator. It basically entails working on our productions and turning the creative people's ideas into reality on a technical level.
I've organised some large gigs, and have a large festival to organise all equipment for, over three venues worth and two 12 tonne trucks and a couple of threes to go out.
I'm constantly liaising with clients and contractors, we're always busy so it's great.
They were very impressed
The job's brill and I'm learning so much as I go on, I'm even getting my hands dirty on the occassional gig. They were very impressed with the broad range of skills and knowledge I brought to the job.
In turn I'd like to thank the University for the skills taught, range, depth and quality of teaching on the Sound, Light and Live Event Technology (SLLET) course.
A solid foundation
The lecturers were great and as a course, it really does give you a solid foundation for taking ourselves further in the industry.
I've been offered sponsorship by the company to stay on already, so I've really landed on my feet!
