Triumph 675 Daytona
The bike
It was a brand new bike, featuring cutting edge technology in terms of the chassis engineering, fuel injection and engine development.
The purchase
The Triumph 675 Daytona bike was purchased to race in the T3 Racing series with funds from the University and the following;
- The East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA),
- The New Technology Initiative (NTI)
- and Performance Engineering Network
The races
Derby was the only university team participating in the race series, with all the other teams being privately owned.
Our entry into the race was masterminded by lecturer and senior technical advisor Sean Galvin along with our motorsport students, and local 20 year old rider Steve Smith.
The races were held at Brands Hatch, Mallory Park, Silverstone, Donington Park and Thruxton.
A total success
After a slow start, the team achieved nine podium finishes after seven rounds. There were three races in every round and the last three rounds resulted in pole position at Cadwell Park, second place qualification at Brands Hatch and Mallory Park and eight podium finishes including two class wins and two overall wins.
