Motorsport
A passion for Motorsport!
Many of our staff and students play an active part in motorsport either as technicians, officials or competitors meaning that you'll take advantage of the latest skills and knowledge of the UK scene.
We have purpose built workshops at our Markeaton Street site which means you'll be taught in a technical facility, which has:
- a rolling road dynamometer
- computerised set-up equipment
- engine test facilities, and
- a well equipped workshop.
The workshop has everything from single seaters to road race motorcycles, all of which you can use for project work and testing.
Take part in events
We like to get ourselves out and about so you'll get plenty of opportunities to go to events. We've been to Le Mans in France for a 24 hour endurance race, raced our Triumph 675 motorcycle nationally in T3 race series, and regularly attend festivals at Silverstone and Donington Park. This means you get great opportunities to network with industry's big names to find exciting work placements.
Live projects
You'll be able to get involved with live projects that give you vital hands-on experience. You can put what you learn on your course into action, and it's this practical element of your studies that will help you to stand out in the graduate job market.
Watch the video below, of a project undertaken by some of our Motorsport students.
Learn from employers
We also play host to a busy guest lecture programme - Silkolene, Lubrizol, Ricardo PLC and PI Systems have all been to give lectures.
The right course for you
You can take the FdEng Motorsport Engineering or the FdEng Motorcycle Engineering which are qualifications in their own right. Once you've finished, you can then progress on to the final year of the appropriate degree.
Or, you could go straight on to the degree course - BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering or BEng (Hons) Motorcycle Engineering.
