Architecture and Built Environment
Architecture
We'll focus on developing your creative and technical skills, both for new and exciting buildings. Our Architectural Venue Design course concentrates on interior architecture and design whereas Architectural Technology and the foundation degree focuses on architectural building practice.
Built Environment
You'll be able to study one of our built environment foundation degrees, in your area of interest to give you the basic knowledge you need to progress onto one of our BA/BSc (Hons) courses.
You can choose which area you want to specialise whether it be:
As well as attending classes and lectures, you'll regularly go on visits to see how buildings are constructed and how their services are installed.
Real design briefs
You have the chance to work on real briefs issued by companies to give you a taster of what it's like to work in the architectural industry.
A design challenge
Sir Richard Branson set our students a Design Challenge to improve the environmental performance of Virgin Atlantic. Tasnime Jennings won the challenge and was awarded a week's work placement at Virgin Atlantic's Crawley headquarters.
Architecture and construction is going through an exciting phase, with many high profile building projects increasing opportunities for careers in this area (the London Olympics, for example).
Architectural Conservation has also become more popular, perhaps because of the TV programme 'Restoration', and we are one of only a few universities in the country to teach this at Bachelor degree level.
