School of Technology

Technology

We offer many courses within the School of Technology that will prepare you for a career in your chosen industry.

Facilities

We have purpose built workshops at our Markeaton Street site which means you'll be taught in a technical facility, which have:

  • rolling road dynamometers
  • computerised set-up equipment
  • engine test facilities
  • and really well equipped workshops.

The motorsport workshops have everything from single seaters to road race motorcycles, all of which you can use for project work and testing.

For our music and media technology students we have a number of dedicated auditoriums so there's plenty of space for music performance, sound and light rigging, and preparing for multimedia events.

We also have two fully-featured recording studios, a set of laboratories so you can study music and lighting technology, and experiment in psychoacoustics and music perception.

For our electrical and electronic engineering students you'll be able to work on microprocessor based system, programmable logic controllers, electrical power, circuit board design and assembly, control, communications and measurement systems.

Accreditation

We're accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) so once you have graduated with a Product Design degree and have gained relevant experience you can become a full member of the IED.

Graduate success

Our technology graduates are successful in many branches of industry and commerce. Some have used their expertise in areas such as design and manufacturing, where the ability to assess and analyse complex situations and to manage large projects is vital.

One of our Architecture and Built Environment students set up his own company and landed a contract with Bombardier.
