Why choose this course?
- You'll consider the sustainable architecture design theories and principles, but with awareness of potential issues of human health in buildings. Your studies won't be solely centered on the design and technological approach to energy efficiency - after all, the most important thing in any building design is the people inside.
- This course will allow you to apply for recognition by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, Chartered Society of Designers and the well established German Institute of Building Biology.
- The programme is conceived in collaboration with a well established MSc in Environmental Health, using two specialist modules to provide a scientific and practically orientated underpinning to the issues of human health in relation to the built environment context.
About the course
The programme has been designed as a contemporary sustainable architectural course with an innovative blend of established scientific theories and design principles in relation to the healthy buildings and environments, aiming to raise your awareness and practicing principles.
You'll build on your knowledge and skills, consider the environmental impact of design decisions and research how to undertake holistic sustainable design analysis integrated within the building information modelling environment.
You'll critically analyse current sustainable architecture and low energy design principles and technologies, government legislation, codes for sustainable design and other professional, industrial and commerce drivers. You'll also research issues that could adversely affect the health of the building users, in a people centered, proactive and preventive way.
Sustainability is not just about the environment so you will research its relationship with aspects of a broader contextual framework, such as socio-cultural, economic, good governance and advancements in the scientific and technological research.
Innovative techniques will be used to assess designs and work including the latest use of technology and research into 3D modelling.
