Research case studies

We are immensely proud of our high-calibre research, much of which has had significant economic, social, environmental and political impact externally.

We are creating new knowledge and novel ways of doing things. Research should impact on the economic and social wellbeing of our region and its place in the global economy, and our case studies demonstrate our ability to do this.

Our research is conducted in partnership with employers from sectors including education, health, engineering, business and the creative industries.

Through our renewed focus on research, between 2008 and 2014 we more than doubled the number of researchers involved in the Research Excellence Framework and the number of subject areas in which we submitted research. 74% of our research is considered at least internationally significant, up from 66%, and investment in our research environment will ensure this continues.
