What I can help with

I'm the Systems Development Officer, responsible for maintaining and developing all of the Admissions systems that we use here at Derby.
I ensure the smooth running of our student record system which we use to process UCAS and GTTR applications along with all of the direct applications. 

I took a lead in implementing the Points Based Immigration System, which allows us to send information to the UK Border Agency electronically which generates Confirmation of Acceptance (CAS) numbers for International applicants. This then allows them to apply for their Tier 4 Student Visa, and of course I continue to support and implement any changes that are made by the UKBA.

I also developed and maintain the University's Online Applications System (OAS), which allows all direct applicants to apply for their chosen programme at Derby.  I am currently leading on a review and redevelopment of this system.

What are my future development plans for Admissions?

The main focus over the next year will be re-developing our online application system, to make it easier for applicants to apply and track their direct applications.

I am looking to implement an Applicant Self Service System, where applicants will be able to track their application online, accept their offer, see their conditions and keep in touch throughout the whole application process.

I also plan to develop Academic Self Service, so all tutors have full access to their applicants' application details, so they can continue to make offers in a more efficient and effective way, and so applicants receive the outcome of their application as soon as possible.

My background

I've worked for the University for over 11 years in a number of different roles and Departments, but with a main focus in Admissions. This has given me a great insight into the whole University and the student experience from applying to graduation. It's been very interesting seeing how the University has changed and develop over the past 11 years, in particular with the use of technology, which has lead me to my current role of Systems Development Officer within Admissions.
