Circumstances beyond your control sometimes mean that you can't submit an assignment or sit an exam, these are called 'extenuating circumstances'. If you find yourself in this position it's important to talk to your module or programme leader and with their agreement you may be able to get an extension which is marked as a 'deferral'. Deferrals show as an 'I' when you get your results.
