NHS pre-registration health courses
Funding for medical courses is awarded by the NHS Business Services Authority. You can find the most up to date information about NHS bursaries on their website. As a guide NHS student funding is usually allocated in the following way. Figures are correct for academic year 10/11.
Tuition Fees:
Paid directly to University
Non means tested bursary:
£6,701 per year if living away from parents
Parent Learning Allowance:
Up to £ 1,303.00 for students with children.One award per family
Dependants Grants:
£2,640 per year for degree students supporting a dependent spouse or eldest child if single parent. £539 for each subsequent child.
£2,238 per year for diploma students supportinga dependent spouse or eldest child if single parent. £539 for each subsequent child.
NHS students may also be entitled to the following funding
Childcare Grant:
Covers 85% of childcare costs. Childcare must be registered and approved.
Initial Expense Allowance:
£55 one off payment with first bursary payment
Practice Placement:
Reimbursement of normal travel costs. Expenses from term time residence to college.Care Leavers Allowance:
Must be under 21 before start of course and in care prior to starting course. Please see our information for care leavers.
