Mental health and autistic apectrum disorders
People with an autistic spectrum disorder can be vulnerable to mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.
Loneliness, frustration, feeling anxious for long periods of time, feeling like you're a failure and being bullied can all cause someone to become mentally ill.
If you are concerned about your mental health you can talk to us in Student Wellbeing, you can find our contact details here.
You can also look after your mental health by following these tips:
- Stay physically healthy. There is a link between physical and mental health, if you take good care of yourself you will feel better. View our exercise tips.
- Meet people. Social interaction is an important element in staying mentally healthy. Come along to some of our meetings for students with autistic spectrum disorder or join a student union society.
- Organise support and use it. If you have an autistic spectrum disorder you are entitled to support - see our section on how to apply for support.
