Student Wellbeing Service - 01332 593000
The Student Wellbeing Service provides a wide range of support, advice and information on disability, finance and welfare to home and overseas students. Support provided by the Service includes -
Mental health support
Support for students pre-entry, whilst at university and during periods of absence due to illness.
Financial guidance
We offer information on Student Loans, grants and bursaries, the Access to Learning Fund, applying to Charities and Trusts for sponsorships and for Career Development Loans. We can also provide information on benefits and help you with budget management.
Disability support
We offer support and advice on:
- Dyslexia including referral for assessment
- Applying for Disabled Students Allowance
- Assessment of study needs
- Preparing Support Plans
- Referring FE disabled students to relevant sources of support
Counselling
We provide a counselling service that offers short term counselling to all students (usually 7 sessions).
University Nurses
We offer support
- if your physical or emotional health is impacting on your studies.

to help manage long term illness
- before,during and after an authorised break from studies due to health issues.

for students who become pregnant
We also provide emergency contraception, condoms, pregnancy testing and contraception advice and information.
GP practice 01332 747140
The university GP surgery (Park Medical Practice) is situated in Student Health Services on the Kedleston Road site and is available to all students who wish to register with them.
University of Derby Students Union - The Source 01332 591509
The Source is staffed by professional advisors offering free, confidential, advice that is independent of the University and offers information, advice, assistance and representation on a wide range of issues including financial, legal, housing, personal and academic issues.
Based in the Students Union building at Kedleston road, The Source is open from 10am to 4pm weekdays when students are able to drop in or make an appointment with one of the advisors.
Chaplaincy 01332 591878
The Chaplaincy is available for all students and offers personal, confidential support on any issue. Chaplains are drawn from a range of Christian faiths and there are also a wide range of Faith Advisors available to provide advice and faith information. Students need not have any religious belief or wish to explore faith to visit the chaplaincy, they can simply drop in for a chat about any issue they wish to discuss or join one of their many social events.
