Disabled students' allowance
As a disabled student, you may be eligible for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).
DSAs are grants to help meet the extra course costs students can face as a direct result of a disability, ongoing health condition, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty. They help disabled people to study in higher education on an equal basis with other students.
They are paid on top of the standard student finance package and don't have to be paid back.
The amount you get depends on the type of extra help you need - not on your household income.
DSA is available to new and existing students, full time and part time, and has no age limit.
There are some limitations and we suggest that you talk to an Adviser in the Student Wellbeing Service about your eligibility. You can also find more information from this link
http://www.direct.gov.uk/DSA
We recommend that you apply for DSA at the earliest opportunity. The process to get your DSA approved can take a long time and the sooner you are in receipt of your DSA the sooner we can put your support in place.
Please note: International students and students on very short courses, such as single modules, will not be eligible for DSA. If this applies to you, please feel free to contact a Disability Adviser for further information on support and possible funding you may need whilst studying. You may also be eligible for other funding from external organisations, such as the Snowden Award
