Supporting you
We'll help and support you all the way
We know that student life can be challenging. We also know that if you're prepared for your student life you're more likely to succeed academically.
If you require additional help for any reason, we will work with you before you arrive to make sure you have the support you need.
Supporting your wellbeing
There is a clear link between your wellbeing and academic success. To give
you the best chance of succeeding, we provide a wide range of face to face, telephone and online support.
The Student Wellbeing Service provides support to all our students on any issue, and we also provide a confidential counselling service.
You can also get independent advice and guidance from The Source in the Students' Union.
And you'll always be welcome in our Chaplaincy - our chaplains and faith advisers can give you personal and confidential support about any issue - it doesn't have to be faith related.
Supporting your health
We will do all we can to help you to look after your health while you're here.
Our nurses provide confidential consultations on a whole range of health issues including diet, sexual health, injuries, minor illness and managing the impact of serious illness.
There is also a doctors' surgery on campus in Derby and three practices close to our Devonshire Campus in Buxton.
Supporting your mental health
Our Mental Health team offers support to anyone with a mental illness or who is concerned about their mental health. We are keen to work with you as soon as we can (even before you've started) to make sure you have the support you need.
You can also find advice on our website about how to look after your mental health while you're studying and how to get support should you need it.
Supporting disabled students
We work closely with our disabled students. We'd encourage you to talk to us about the support you need as soon as you're thinking about coming to university. We offer advice and guidance at one to one appointments, drop in sessions and by telephone and email.
Disabled students can also come along to our Get Ahead programme at the beginning of term. It will give you the best possible start to your student life.
Supporting care leavers
If you're fostered or a care leaver or have had experience of living in care, support and guidance is available, from the moment you apply right through to graduation, from our team of care leaver mentors.
Supporting students with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder
If you have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder you have the opportunity to receive tailored, individual support. This includes regular meetings with a support worker, an event to help you to settle into University before term starts, and a regular chance to meet up with other students with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Supporting your family
Lots of our students have caring responsibilities. We can provide you with information and guidance about how to get additional support, available funding, childcare and local schools.
Supporting your finances
We offer financial guidance and help with budgeting. For those in financial difficulty we can also help you to apply for additional funding.
Supporting your faith
Our chaplains and faith advisers represent our diverse and multicultural community. They work across both our campuses, organising talks and discussion groups, Fairtrade lunches, social justice campaigns and days out. And they're always there if you need to talk to someone, about
anything at all.
