Experience in industry

I worked in the travel industry for fifteen years before embarking on a career in teaching.  My travel industry experience includes: retail, business travel, accounts, tour operations, sales and maketing and event managment. Whilst working in the industry I had the opportunity to visit many different countries and this helped to inspire in me a real love for travel and tourism industry. My academic career started in 2000, teaching in further education and for the last three years here at the University of Derby. I continue to work closely with industry partners and have recently helped organisations to use social media effectively in order to help with their marketing campaigns.

I am currently working  on several  projects in conjunction with different tourism organisations along with our students here at the university to help contextualise real world learning within the modules of study. one such project which we completed last year was with Cromford Mill, a World Heritage site, helping to manage space and understand the quality of the visitor experience.
