About

I am a fully qualified management accountant with over 15 years of experience working in industry. I joined the University in 2010 and I have taught a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional modules. I am also interested in the public sector having been both a parish and district councillor. My research interests are around performance measurement in local government.

Research interests

I have developed an interest in local government that links my love of politics to management accounting. I enjoy looking into how councils perform and what their goals are and how the measurement of these goals drives the council to achieve them (or not!).

Conference paper at the British Accounting and Finance Association Special Interest Group: Public Sector and Charities at Queens University Belfast in January 2018. Adapt or Die. Does local government need to adopt business-like practices to survive austerity?

Conference paper at the British Accounting and Finance Association Northern Area Annual Conference at the University of Derby in September 2018. How important is it to understand what citizens want from local government when setting performance targets?

Experience in industry

I have experience as a financial accountant and management accountant within manufacturing, retailing and service industries. I have managed large teams (20-30 staff). I am a graduate of the Local Government Association Leadership Academy. I have been Deputy Leader and Leader of my council.
