About

Alison Oddey is Professor of Visual Culture & Contemporary Performance at the University of Derby. She has worked in Higher Education for nearly 30 years, writing, publishing and broadcasting on a range of visual arts and contemporary performance practices. She was Advisor to the REF Unit of Assessment D34, Art and Design, History, Theory and Practice, for REF2014 and has written research returns for three universities RAE2008, RAE2001 and RAE1996. She has an established national and international research record evidenced by her publications, including seven books, and work in the public domain as a presenter for BBC Radio 4 and Royal National Theatre's Platform Events. Professional interests

Alison has worked with colleagues in Europe and North America and at six UK universities, taking up her first Chair post as Professor of Theatre Studies & Contemporary Performance at Loughborough University in 2000, having been Head of Drama in the School of Drama, Film & Visual Arts at the University of Kent. Her book ‘Re-Framing the Theatrical’ shifted her research interests into Art & Design, the interdisciplinary landscapes of the walk as an art form, contemplative space and solo spectatorship. Alison is also a Holistic Therapist with her own private practice. Her current interdisciplinary research in Arts, Health & Wellbeing includes an interactive art exhibition event, landscape health-care interventions for public engagement embracing art and science, and research projects linked to the Cultural Value of Arts for Health & Wellbeing, the Culture of Prevention, Self-Care, Happiness and Healthy Living. She is Associate Editor of ‘The International Journal of Health, Wellness and Society’ and is Co-Editor of the international, interdisciplinary Journal, ‘Scene’.
