Research interests
Nicki's research explores her interest in everyday objects, collections and multiples using printmaking, drawing and photography to create a personal response to her findings.
Sometimes Nicki's interest is in many similar objects and other times it is the way in which they are placed in their environment that fuses them all together and inspires her to create work. The recent publication for 'The Wooden Dog Press" was a pictorial record of her kitchen cupboards, the multiples of cups, plates and kitchen paraphernalia illustrated and captured in there organised and formal manner.
Assembling items into categories and applying order to my selection forms the basis for refining my illustrations. I prefer to work in silkscreen and monoprint, as the processes offers the opportunity to create textures, mark making and beautiful layering of colour that I require to enhance the uniqueness and individuality of the publications and the final prints.
