Professional interests
My journey so far has brought me to an understanding that much of current and future adult learning will involve helping people learn another way of thinking and doing. Experience has shown me this will often involve enabling self-belief and helping people gain confidence before knowing how best to apply their skills and knowledge within the context of a work situation.
I have strong values and beliefs around ethical leadership and making the most significant difference (people, place and planet). I believe education is more resourceful if it is based on the principle that everyone has a duty of care and ethical responsibility to contribute to sustaining the future of our societies. Understanding the role of coaching in this, I believe, means inspiring leadership in others by helping them draw on what they already know. In so doing my main aim as an education professional is to help people build a foundation of knowledge and skills, whilst understanding more about what they already bring to a new learning situation and that this will enable and allow them to lead themselves and others in an unpredictable future.
My philosophy is shaped by influences along the way including: life and work experience, interests in social sciences, language, psychology, education and the people side of business. I hope my 'eclectic blend' makes my teaching more inspiring.
