Subject Area: Radiography
I am the programme leader for the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography programme. I also teach across the programme but my specialist areas of interest are Anatomy and the professional aspects of practice. However, my time as a clincial radiographer can also be put to good use in teaching radiographic technique if required. I especially like to feel I can motivate the next generation of radiographers to strive for excellence in their chosen profession.
I like to be forward thinking and proactive in terms of approach to new ways of delivering materials so that we can utilise the best of the new technologies to engage the students. I have spearheaded the development of a problem based approach to learning and teaching in a challenging level 5 module, being careful to use evidence, student feedback and staff development opportunities to ensure this was a success. I have developed many interactive materials for student use (I have made extensive use of mind genie for example) and championed the use of wiki technology. More laterly I have introduced Pebblepad as an e-portfolio tool into the programme. I am always keen to ensure that my approach is student centred and aimed at bring out the best in those I engage with. For example I have developed an approach of 'feedforward' to feedback in an attempt to engage the student with the learning opportunities that feedback can present if utilised effectively.
Professional interests
Effective teaching and learning strategies, especially in looking at how new technologies can support learning. I also try to keep up-to-date with developments in nuclear medicine imaging so I can support the teaching in that area.
