My duties include planning and delivering various modules in BA Hospitality Management, FD Hotel Management and FD Culinary Arts on campus and via e-learning.
Teaching responsibilities
I teach a number of modules within Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts programmes such as:Research and Academic Skills, Professional Development 1: Hospitality Management, Contemporary Hotel Industry, Employability Skills for Hotel Management, History of Food, Event Catering Management, Hotel Operations Management, Developing the Hotel Manager, Managing Cultural Diversity,Delivering Added Value, and Independent Study.
Professional interests
I have worked in various sectors within the hospitality industry, including hotels, restaurants, bars and theme parks in Japan, Switzerland and the UK. Although I have changed my career path to teaching, I still have a passion for hospitality and update my knowledge through research and being a customer!
Research interests
Due to my international background, I have a keen interest in cultural diversity within the University as well as in the hospitality industry. I have been researching the international students' experience at UK universities and using this research to provide good support structure for them. I am also about to embark on PhD research on managing cultural diversity within hospitality SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises).
International Experience
I am originally from Japan and studied English in the United States. After 5 years of full-time employment in Japan, I lived in Switzerland for four years studying and working in the hospitality industry and educational institute before I came to England.
