As a Senior Lecturer in Primary Teacher Education I have responsibility for teaching on a range of modules on the Primary BEd, PGCE and MA Ed programmes. I am part of the lead Admissions Team and am the Stage 1 tutor for the BEd programme. As part of these roles, I oversee the management of Stage 1, from the interview process through to transition to Stage 2 of the programme. I am also the ICT Coordinator for both the BEd and PGCE programmes therefore much of my activity surrounds the development and teaching of ICT (both as a subject in its own right and as a cross-curricular tool). I supervise a range Independent Studies on the BEd and MA Ed.
Professional interests
Having taught in the Primary Sector for over ten years, I completed my MEd. This provided me with the opportunity to join the University of Derby as a Senior Lecturer. I am currently working towards my Doctorate in Education which focuses on the issues faced by dyslexic Initial Teacher Education students whilst on professional placement. Whilst employed at the University of Derby, I have lead and lectured on a variety of modules across the Primary Teacher Education undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, including modules relating to ICT, gender, race and class in education, child development, the historical development of the British education system and learning beyond the classroom.
Research interests
My research considers the issues faced by dyslexic students whilst undertaking professional placements and how their dyslexia influences their own pedagogy within the primary classroom.
