I am also a Practice Placement Tutor, and module leader of the Practice Placement 1 module, in which students on both the BSc (Hons) and MSc (pre-registration) programmes complete their first practice placement. I visit students who are on placement in Derby, and have close links with placement settings in this area. I am responsible for co-ordinating and delivering training for new Practice Placement Educators, and coordinate the accreditation of practice placement educators via the APPLE scheme. I am a member of the Occupational Therapy marketing team.
Teaching responsibilities
I teach on a variety of modules within the pre-registration Occupational Therapy programmes. Much of this is in relation to Practice Placement Ediucation, and includes preparing students for placement, facilitating reflective workshops for students on placement, and debriefing groups of returning students. I also run a number of workshops for local Practice Placement Educators, in order to support them in their role with students.
In addition to teaching related to placements, I also teach on a number of academic modules. Topics include mental health conditions, clinical governance, and life changes. I supervise a number of students completing their independent study module, writing dissertations on a range of topics. I am also part of the module team for the first inter-professional learning module, enabling students from a number of professions to work together in developing their understanding of common professional issues.
Professional interests
My clinical background is in Older Adult Mental Health, having worked in day hospital, in-patient and community settings in both clinical and leadership positions. I have a particular interest in the use of the Model of Human Occupation with older adults, and have used this extensively within my clinical practice.
