Experience in Industry
Before commencing employment with the University of Derby, I worked for British Telecommunications (BT) in London. My role was that of Senior Financial Analyst.
I have maintained a link between academia and real life company practices by undertaking work with commercial clients, more recently these include JCB and Marley Eternit.
Faculty: Business, Computing and Law
School: Derby Business School
Subject Area: Accounting and Finance
Supporting the Faculty and School Vision
My contribution to the school vision is through the provision of informed teaching.
Commercial activity and research projects have enabled me to enhance the student experience, both in the classroom and in my advisory role as year tutor.
Teaching responsibilities
My main teaching commitments are spread across the undergraduate, post graduate and professional programmes. I particularly focus on Financial Management and Financial Strategy related modules.
Research interests
My research interests lie in the area of capital budgeting practices/processes, particularly on an internationally comparative level, with a focus on emerging markets/cultural differences. I am currently pursuing some research in this area.
In the past I have contributed to a joint research project looking at Ethnic Minority Businesses (EMB) in Derby: A population survey and needs gap analysis. This was for a private organisation called Jet. The emphasis here was on how EMB in Derby could grow.
Membership of professional bodies and advisory committees

Additional Interests and Activities
As my career choice may suggest, I am passionate about education and the whole concept of learning and filling knowledge gaps. I enjoy the fact that I have the opportunity to pass on knowledge and more importantly to make a difference. I strongly value the education system and firmly believe that it is a system that provides opportunities.
I would like very much to build on my existing commercial / consultancy activity. I see an essential synergy between this and my current role.
