Teaching responsibilities
As a senior lecturer in Education Studies I lead modules on Education Placement: Experience and Reflection (stage 2), Learner Difference and Needs (stage 2), Social and Emotional Development (stage 1), and Alternative Schooling (stage 2). I also support on the Understanding and Managing Behaviour module (stage 3), Analysing Communications (stage 3), Psychological Approaches to Learning (stage 1), and Intro to Comparative Education (stage 1) as well as supervise a range of independent studies dissertations.
Professional interests
I graduated from the University of Michigan in the United States with a B.A. Education degree and a teaching qualification to teach kindergarten to fifth grade. While teaching full time, I gained my Master's degree as a Reading Specialist from Eastern Michigan University. I taught elementary school for 8 years before moving overseas to teach at an international school just outside of London. These experiences have piqued my interested in a multitude of areas such as international/ comparative education, alternative forms of education, the psychology of learning and social development throughout life, and understanding and managing behaviour in a learning environment.
Research interests
My research interests consider the idea of risk awareness and risk aversion and how ideas of risk can differ culturally and can impact childhood social and emotional development. Also of interest is alternative approaches to education and the impact of these approaches on language and literacy development, risk taking and the connection to self esteem and behaviour management.

Additional Interests and Activities
I enjoy making beaded jewellery, going to the cinema and theatre, visiting art exhibitions, cooking, singing, knitting, travelling, meditating, yoga and cycling.
