Supporting the Faculty and School Vision
I am soon to commence on the new route PhD programme with the intention of becoming an expert in my field. This links into the vision of DBS being recognised for academic excellence. I aim to inspire my students with the mix of my industrial, public and third sector experience as well as my up and coming research. I take pride in knowing all my students and enjoy challenging them and seeing them develop. My commitment to the professional accounting programmes translates into ensuring our undergraduate students are employable as soon as they leave our institution.
Teaching responsibilities
I teach on the undergraduate Accounting and Finance Degree. My specialist area is Management Accounting and I am module leader for 'Costing', 'Introduction to Management Accounting' and 'Management Accounting Performance Evaluation'.
I am the Accounting and Finance Online Top Up programme leader and work closely with the online team to ensure the students have a great experience.
I also teach on the ACCA (Association of Certified Accountants) professional programme. I am module leader for F2 Management Accounting, F5 Performance Management and P5 Advanced Performance Management.

I specialise in Management Accounting.
Research interests
I am interested in all areas of strategic management accounting and in particular I am interested in strategic management accounting techniques and how they can be applied in the public sector.
I am also interested in developing new teaching and learning tools that can be used for both on campus and online courses such as short subject specific videos.
Membership of professional bodies and advisory committees
I am an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Additional Interests and Activities
I am passionate about making our students experience of management accounting great, here at Derby. I want them to see there is more to accounting than just numbers. I have experience in different industries and I want to bring the subject to life by relating the topics studied to real life situations. I experience tremendous job satisfaction when the "penny drops" for students.
I have spent many years in commercial organisations plus four years as an elected Conservative member of a local district council. My interests are now turning to research to combine both areas.
