I am Postgraduate Award Leader for Medical Ultrasound with responsibility for all aspects of ultrasound award management, development, recruitment, student supervision, assessment, module evaluation, and the training / support of clinical mentors.

Teaching responsibilities

I teach on a wide range of ultrasound modules including principles of ultrasound, general medical, obstetrics , gynaecology and vascular.

Professional interests

I trained originally at Guy's Hospital and have worked in ultrasound education since 1990, combining various teaching roles with both clinical practice and research. I moved from London to Leeds in 1986 where I worked in clinical practice at St. James's Hospital and as a part time lecturer at the University of Leeds for 15 years.

I now lecture in medical imaging here at Derby and have responsibility for the specialist ultrasound pathway within the MSc Advanced Practice.

I have specific interest in the physics and technology of medical ultrasound and have written and taught extensively in these areas, including the development of e-learning material for the Royal College of Radiologists Radiology Teaching Initiative.

Research interests

I developed an interest in Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (EMUS) in the mid 1990's and have taught EMUS since 1998. I've authored e-learning material for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine enlightenME project and contributed to a number of text books and papers relating to point of care ultrasound. Current research interests include the use of focused ultrasound in a range of emergency, critical care and pre-hospital settings.

I'm currently studying for a Professional Doctorate in Health at the University of Bath.

Associate member of the Society of Vascular Technologists and the British Institute of Radiology.
I'm registered with the Health Professions Council
I have been a member of the College of Emergency Medicine (CEM) Education and Examinations Committee Ultrasound Subgroup since it was formed in 2005.
