Senior Lecturer in the Education team.

Teaching responsibilities

I teach on X300 BA (Hons) Education Studies, and the MA Education. My main teaching interests centre around Social and Political arenas, I am interested in inequality in terms of socio-economic group, gender, and ethnicity, and I lead the Sociology Strand on our undergraduate programme. I lead the modules: 'Education for All: Myth or Reality?' (Stage One), and on the MA I lead a course entitled 'Developing Equality Classrooms', where we analyse areas of inequality, and how they impact on teaching.

Professional interests

As a Secondary School teacher and Specialist Sixth Form Teacher since 1995, my professional interests centre around ITT for 11-18s, and particularly the post-16 qualifications, the extended essay at A2 and the IB Diploma. I am interested in the future direction of schooling, and teach on areas such as Academy Status and the recent advents of Free Schooling and Charter Schools. In the past I have examined at A Level, and set A Level papers, including having trained teachers for Politics A Level Updates to the specifications, and given Student A Level Revision Conferences.

Research interests

I am currently in the process of researching, part-time, for an Education Doctorate (Ed.D) in educational inequality relating to University access, specifically the International Baccalaureate. Have passed my taught modules in July 2010, I am now on the research phase. I am examining the interface between Levels 3 and 4 and how the barriers are often related to socio-economic group, but also to gender.
