I work between two programmes within the school of education.
- Programme Leader of the Early Years Professional Status which is a CWDC government led programme supporting the development of the early years workforce. To find out more about this programme go to www.derby.ac.uk/eyps
- Lecturer on the Children and Young Peoples Services Degree. This degree reflects the changes to the Children and Young Peoples workforce and is a practice based foundation degree offering a choice of 6 pathways that will enable students to gain theoretical knowledge underpinned by practical experience of working in the Children and Young Peoples Workforce.
Teaching responsibilities
My teaching responsibilities are primarily on the Children and Young Peoples Foundation Degree where I am module leader for two modules Integrated Services and Equality and Diversity. I have additional responsibility on this programme as the named person for students who may need additional support to fully engage with the programme.

Professional interests
I have a professional interest in equality and diversity and inclusion. As a practitioner I worked as part of a team of professionals piloting integrated working prior to the implementation of the Every Child Matters Agenda. To support my ongoing commitment to the development and application of theory and practice in these areas I am the identified person for the identification and support of students either not engaging with their chosen modules or programme.
Research interests
I am currently undertaking a piece of research looking at perceptions of parent partnership in light of current government initiatives and legislation and how this is reflected in practice.
My future research interest would be around my subject areas of:
- equality,
- cultural identity and aspiration
- embracing diversity through assessment and engagement
- Integrated multi-professional working in practice.
- Emotional intelligence - impact on engagement in learning and personal development.
The areas identified as future considerations for research are informed by the challenges faced as a lecturer, a practitioner and parent.
