Recent publications
I have been research active since 1988 mainly in relation to my photographic and holographic fine art practice. However, I have published a number of papers that explore pedagogic issues and I am currently co-authoring a poster and paper. The working title at the moment is ‘support for enhanced programme and curriculum design: developing flexible and integrated approaches’. The research will explore the context within which we operate in Higher Education as ‘increasingly complex, diverse and fast moving’. Thus, requiring enhanced flexible and integrated approaches to staff development to support programme and curriculum design that is 'fit for purpose' and 'fit for the future'.

I have worked in Higher Education Since 1995 as a programme leader at the University of Sunderland and University of Derby. I was a mentor at Nottingham Trent University (for their Certificate in Further Education between 1994-2000).
I joined the University of Derby in 1996 as a Programme / Subject Co-ordinator for BA (Hons) Photography and Time Based Media (the programme that replaced the flagship degree BA (Hons) Photographic Studies). Since 1996 I have had 3 significant shifts in my role at the University.
I have experience working in Further and Adult Education since 1991 where I taught photography, video production, media studies and business studies at South East Derbyshire College, Mackworth College, Derbyshire County Council and Leicester College. In addition, I have experience working in industry and running my own business as Director of the National Holography Studio in Leicester and Chair of Stirrup and Company Ltd.
In 1988 I successfully completed my first degree in Photographic Studies here at the University. I immediately progressed to the Royal College of Art where I undertook research in Holography (working for the MOD and Ilford PLC) and specialising in Fine Art Holographic Practice. In 1994 I successfully completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Nottingham Trent University; my thesis for this was based on ‘quality in education, quality enhancement/staff appraisal systems in industry and education’.
