Experience in Industry

I have work experience in managing and owning small businesses and I have been involved in the development of several over the years. I have worked for larger companies in the past but I prefer to work with SMEs as I feels a sense of ownership.

I continue with my business interests and feels this to be vital in the development and practical application to the modules and their content.

I have substantial experience in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students and also working with post-experience enterprise and entrepreneurship programmes, as well as working with students and graduates who are developing new business ventures. I am also active in making new connections between enterprise learning, career development and employability.

I believe very strongly in taking a practiced based approach to learning formulated around my own business experience and theoretical understanding.

Research interests

My area of research is mainly based around Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and its application; not just within a business context, but how this can be applied within an educational environment, developing an enterprise culture is vitally important in today's competitive world. More recently I have become more interested in how SMEs move from a national to international context.

Additional Interests and Activities

As module leader for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship I am responsible for developing the modules in Enterprise for the undergraduate and post graduate programmers'. I take a very practice based approach to that development based upon his own business experience and theoretical understanding.

Being proactive, I seek to actively encourage entrepreneurial thinking and its development not just from within the Business School but also across other faculties within the University and with businesses.
